Malabar Tamarind, often know as Pot Tamarind or Kudampuli is a kind of tamarind that is found in parts of South-east Asia, India, Sri Lanka, and Africa. It is a sour fruit that resembles a little pumpkin and is roughly the size of a tomato. The fruit is then sun-dried, smoked, and salted and preserved. It is mainly used to add a smoky tart flavor to fish curries. It is known to decrease insulin levels along with reducing inflammation. It aids in the digestion process and helps protect against stomach ulcers. Pot tamarind contains a compound called Hydroxy Citric Acid (HCA) that may inhibit an enzyme that helps store fat in the body.
Malabar tamarind is best known for its unique nature and for its culinary value. It looks like a small pumpkin with green and pale yellow in colour. It helps with various health benefits like lowering cholesterol, control blood sugar and increasing metabolism and energy.
