Fennel seed is an essential spice in the garam masala mix. It is used as a panch poran (mix of 5 spices) in the Bengali, Oriya and Assamese cuisines. Fennel is also used in the Chinese five-spice powder.
Fennel seed is often used as a mouth refresher and after-meal digestive. A sweet and aromatic spice, fennel has many medicinal uses too.
